Huercal Overa shop

The shop is located at 151A Carretera Estación, Huercal Overa, across the street from the bus station.

The much anticipated grand opening of the MACS shop in Huercal Overa took place on December 15, 2014. Dignitaries in attendance included the Mayor of Huercal Overa, Domingo Fernández Zurano and Alejandro Guerrero Salvador, the Honorary British Consul of Almería. Huercal Overa was the first ayuntamiento to provide a free opening license and administration for a MACS shop. Additional support was graciously provided by FACE Arboleas, Mojácar Masons, Voss Estates, Dames in Turre and architect Juan Antonio Garcia. Lorraine Cundy and Sue Pearce from FACE (Fundraising in Arboleas Caring for Everyone) were at the opening to present MACS with a check for 500 euros.

MACS,the Mojácar Area Support Group, is an all volunteer organization designed to provide support for cancer patients and their loved ones. The shop has a relaxation room to provide private Patient Survivor and Care Giver meetings. In additional to providing much needed emotional support for patients and their loved ones, MACS also offers a free loan of hospital aids and other needed supplies such as wigs and bras. MACS can provide help with translators and transportation. Grief counseling is also available.

Las Buganvillas shop

The new shop, located at Las Buganvillas roundabout, near Vera Playa, is the latest in the chain of charity shops and joins those in Mojacar, Turre, Albox and Huercal Overa. The shops are crucial fundraisers for the charity and thanks to the volunteers who operate them and the kind donations of items from local people, they bring in vital revenue to enable MACS to continue helping cancer patients throughout the area.

Macs do not endorse any particular guide lists only guides with web pages so remember that many local and national groups are not yet on the Internet in Spain - your doctor or medico may be able to recommend a support group most suited to your needs. As well as 'face-to-face' support groups, there are a growing number of 'electronic' or 'virtual' support groups, where it is possible to communicate with other patients anywhere in the world. Remember health care systems vary from country to country and time changes treatments and group support structures
